Some quick takeaways:

  • A great model not only helps you raise capital and impress investors during the process, but also helps you run your business better in the long run.
  • When crafting your pitch deck, tease the investor with a snapshot of your financial model including your financial projections for at least the next 5 years – don’t go to deep, be concise!
  • Post that first investor meeting, make sure to follow up and include any further analysis from the discussion on your financial model – this will impress the investor even more.
  • Your financial model needs to back up your larger company growth goals. By diving deep into customer acquisition for example, you’ll be able to show your specific plans on how you’ll go about acquiring more customers at a lower cost and make your model “believable” to investors.
